I am trying to find the parentage of a James Findlater who suddenly appears in Hull, East Yorkshire in 1807. According to the 1851 Census he is 65 years old and born in Scotland. The record of his marriage, in 1807, to Ellis Coakes does not give any information about either set of parents. Their children, all born in Beverley, were Samuel (1808), Samuel again (1810), Thomas Alexander (1812), Jane (1814), Elizabeth (1816), James Samuel (1818), James (1819), Samuel no 3 (1823) and Sarah (1826). It appears that only Elizabeth, Samuel (3) and Sarah live long enough to get married. Because of the insistence on having a son called Samuel, I assume that James F. is probably from the Penpont branch of the family. Has anybody from that branch lost a James born about 1785?
